Course of Civil Engineering at the Faculty of Geodesy, Geospatial and Civil Engineering at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn.

First degree studies in civil engineering are conducted on full-time and part-time without specifying the specialityStudent acquaints himself with the basic and technical knowledge in the field of broadly understood civil engineering. The course is conducted in the following areas:

  • general education subjects (foreign language, humane subject and protection of intellectual property), basic sciences (mathematics, physics, geology, architecture and urban planning, theoretical mechanics, strength of materials, methods of calculation, information technology, safety and ergonomics),
  • directional subjects, education in the field of: geometry and technical drawing, geodesy, strength of materials, structural mechanics, general construction, soil mechanics, foundation, concrete structures, metal structures, installation of construction, transportation engineering, building physics, hydraulics and hydrology, organization of building production, the technology works , directing the investment process, the economics of the construction industry.

During the studies the student is obliged to pass two practices in construction companies and the thesis practice. During the last semester the student performs engineering thesis.

The graduate, after completing the relevant professional practices, has the right to apply for professional licence to design and manage construction works in specialties where practice will be held.

In the master’s degree studies (full or part - time) the graduate has the possibility to choose one of the three specialisations: buildings and engineering structures; Construction and exploitation of roads; Energy efficient building

Buildings and engineering constructions

Fields of education: metal structures, concrete structures, construction project management, masonry structures, lightweight structures, wooden structures, hydrodynamics structures, geotechnics, special concretes, renovations and modernization.

Graduate of Buildings and Engineering Constructions gains extended knowledge and skills in the field of design and implementation of steel and reinforced concrete structures including compressed, bricks and wood structures. Graduates are qualified to work in the analysis and design of structures and engineering facilities to carry out work on construction site ,maintenance and modernization. They can deal with complex design or material problems, which require advanced scientific methods, such as computer methods for analysis and design of structures. Graduates can work in construction designs offices, executive companies, research institutions and institutions involved in counselling and popularization of civil engineering.

The graduate, after completing the relevant professional practices, has the right to apply for professional licence to design and manage construction works in specialties where practice will be held.

Construction and exploitation of roads

Specialty of Construction and Exploitation of Roads fills with market demand for professionals whose responsibilities cover issues related to the design of roads and streets, traffic engineering, management of the road network and operation and maintenance of roads. The course gives graduates broad opportunities for employment in companies involved in design and construction of roads, as well as in institutions dealing with the maintenance and operation of the road network.

Fields of education: metal structures, concrete structures, construction project management, installation in the road, materials technology and road surfaces, design of roads and streets, operation and maintenance of roads, technology and economics in the road, geotechnics, traffic engineering.

The graduate, after completing the relevant professional practices, has the right to apply for professional licence to design and manage construction works in specialties where practice will be held.

Energy efficient building

Energy efficient building is a speciality that responses to market needs regarding education specialists who will be able through knowledge of construction, building physics and building installations to create energy-efficient construction. The program is aimed at people who are interested in the issues of energy efficiency of new and existing buildings. During the studies, the student gains the knowledge needed to design low, zero, and plus energy buildings as well as to evaluate energy assessment and renovation of existing ones.

Fields of education: metal structures, concrete structures, construction project management, energy efficient constructions, heating technology, ventilation and air conditioning, heat engineering, fluid mechanics, energy-saving installations in the construction industry, renewable energy, energy certification, thermo-modernization and building physics.

The graduate, after completing the relevant professional practices, has the right to apply for professional licence to design and manage construction works in specialties where practice will be held.
