The rules of teaching of
MEDICAL PARASITOLOGY
for Medicine English Division students,
IIND year
2013/2014

  1. Students must strictly obey starting and ending dates of the semester. You cannot be late at the beginning or leave early at the end of the academic year; there will be no exceptions to this rule.
  2. Labs begin exactly at the given time. You are obligated to be 5 minutes earlier than your scheduled class. If you are late you won’t be allowed to participate in labs.
  3. Presence and active participation in laboratory classes are obligatory. ONLY one Absence from one class during the semester is allowed and it requires a doctor’s note. Make-up labs are only allowed if space is available.
  4. Every class begins with a multiple choice quiz that covers current issues. Each quiz covers one subject and it consists of 5 questions. In one lab you may have more than one subject scheduled– always check it before the lab begins.
  5. Failing quizzes are NOT eligible to have a retake. The maximum number of points you can get on all quizzes is 40 (8 tests x 5 points=40). You need to get at least 21 points in order to pass the labs and do the colloquium. If not, the student will write the test that covers all material presented on all labs, on the last lab (and thus skip the first term of colloquium).
The following scale will apply to the grade from the short quizzes:
    5,0 = 37-40 pts; 4,5 = 33-36 pts; 4,0 = 29-32 pts; 3,5 = 25-28 pts; 3,0 = 21-24 pts
  6. Skipping classes that have a test in it will result in a grade of ZERO (unless illness is proved with a physician’s note).
  7. Tests include material from labs, lectures and books listed for the course. Knowledge from all of these sources is obligatory.
  8. Students should bring a blank A5 format notebook with a minimum of 60 sheets. The drawings must be completed in regular or colored pencil. No ink allowed.
  9. At the completion of each lab, the assistant must sign your lab book. ALL signatures MUST be present in order to earn the right to take the final examination.
  10. During the semester, one theoretical colloquium and one practical examination are scheduled, on the last lab (28.03).
  11. The final grade is the average of: the grade from the short tests and the grades from the theoretical colloquium and practical examination.
  12. The following scale will apply to the final grade. No exceptions will be made to this grading scale.
    Passing: 5,0 = 90 – 100%; 4,5 = 80 – 89.9%; 4,0 = 70 – 79.9%; 3,5 = 60 – 69.9%; 3,0 = 50.1 –59.9%
    Failing: 2,0 = 0 – 50.0%
  13. The Head of the Medical Biology Department has the right to refuse to sign your index if you have not attended the labs or if you have not obtained the credits required for the completion of the course.
  14. Rewriting the grade from the course is based on rules approved by the Faculty Council of the Faculty of Medical Sciences.
  15. Students are REQUIRED to wear physicians’ lab-coats during labs. The wearing of additional clothing, such as hats and gloves, is not accepted due to safety and hygienic matters.
  16. Microscope slides will be demonstrated in class. Students are asked to use microscopes carefully. Should you have questions about using the microscope do not hesitate to ask your teaching assistant.
  17. No food and drink are allowed in classes and lectures.
  18. No mobile phones, tablets and/or cameras are allowed in classes and lectures.
  19. During labs, problems may be resolved by the assistants, by the Assistant-Tutor MSc Dorota Litwin, or (if necessary) by the Head of the Department – Prof. Ewa Dzika.
  20. Refusing to sign these rules means you are not allowed to participate in classes.
