dr Maciej Niedźwiedź

MACIEJ NIEDŹWIEDŹ, PhD, born in Poznań in 1971. He graduated from the 1st and 2nd Degree State Music School in Olsztyn in the class of double bass in 1991 and in the class of classical guitar in 1998 (an extramural graduate). In the years 1991-1996 he studied the double bass under Prof. Wenancjusz Kurzawa in the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz.

In 1996 he took up employment in the Institute of Music of the Higher School of Pedagogy in Olsztyn - today, the Faculty of Arts at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn. In 2003 he obtained the doctoral degree in music arts in the area of instrumental studies - speciality of double bass. He teaches the bass guitar (the auxiliary instrument course) and the double bass. He also holds a diploma seminar and is a supervisor of diploma theses.

Since 1996 he has been a member of the Symphony Orchestra of the Warmia-Mazury Feliks Nowowiejski  Philharmonic in Olsztyn and a double bass teacher in the 1st and 2nd Degree State Music School in Olsztyn. He is an advocate and promoter of solo double bass performances and an organiser of concerts and educational initiatives.

He has appeared as a chamber and orchestra musician on many stages in Europe and North America. His passion is lutherie - the art of instrument building.
