The major areas of research conducted at the Department of Grassland and Green Space Management

  • Grass seed production
  • Biology of important grassland species
  • Grassland fertilization under various habitat conditions
  • Grassland and peatland  vegetation and habitats, and their environmental functions
  • Evaluation of permanent grassland renewal methods
  • Selection of components (plant species and varieties) of mixtures for permanent and rotational grasslands
  • Green space management

In the 20th century, research addressed mostly issues related to grassland management and maintenance. Recent years have witnessed an increased interest in environmental protection issues such as green space management, the use of grass biomass for energy, and the use of sewage sludge as a fertilizer for lawns and energy crops.
It describes research studies carried out in 1952-2016, i.e. from the establishment of the Department until the present time. Eight postdoctoral (habilitation) theses and 24 doctoral dissertations have been completed and successfully defended over that period. The Department’s employees have published 405 original research articles.
