ABOUT US

ZF Olsztyn

Zebrafishlab is an academic laboratory of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn (Faculty of Veterinary Medicine). It was founded in 2006 by dr Piotr Podlasz, and therefore was the first institution in Poland using zebrafish as a model organism. Our research cover many aspects of developmental biology and neurobiology. Particular emphasis is placed on the investigations concerning the function and the influence of various neuropeptides (especially galanin and PACAP-38) in the zebrafish, with a respect to animal and human disorders. We are equipped with a zebrafish breeding facility, where we maintain both wild-type and several transgenic lines. We are able to measure and quantify multiple molecular, biochemical and physiological endpoints, both in the larvae and the adult fish. Our goals are achieved with the use of various techniques applied in our laboratory, such as molecular biology, CRISPR cas9, immunohistochemistry, confocal microscopy, behavioral tests as well as early life stages toxicological tests.
