Organisational structure of The Institute of Music

DEPARTMENT OF CONDUCTING AND VOCAL TRAINING

The Department carries out research activity and takes part in seminars, workshops and conferences related to the questions of performing music in ensembles, organises concerts and music events at a local, national and international level. The effect of this activity are monographic publications about the region studied as well as phonographic and archival recordings of choral and instrumental music ensembles, conducted by the teachers employed by the Department. In the area of methodology, the task of the Department is to prepare students for organisation and leading of vocal and instrumental ensembles music in amateur music movement and to the role of conductors of professional music ensembles.

DEPARTMENT OF INSTRUMENTAL STUDIES

The Department carries out research activity in the field of problems of performance and interpretation of a music work. It organises concerts, music broadcasts, courses, workshops and conferences focused on instrumental music performing. The lecturers of the Department of Instrumental Studies participate in significant artistic projects and in concert activity, both as soloists or members of ensembles; they record their achievements in the form of phonographic and archival recordings. The Department educates and prepares future music teachers in scope of playing different musical instruments.

DEPARTMENT OF THEORY OF MUSIC AND MUSIC EDUCATION

The Department studies music of different periods and musical culture of the Warmia and Mazury region. The lecturers of the Department organise and participate in scientific conferences, nationwide sessions and symposia in the field of education, methodology and theory of music. The Department's goal is also to prepare students to conduct educational classes devoted to music and musicality at the pre-school education level and in primary and secondary schools; preparation for musical activity in amateur movement, in institutions of culture or media, and to animation of musical culture in local communities.
