The Faculty of Medical Sciences at the University of Varmia and Masuria (UWM) has been ranked 4th out of the 12 Medical Schools in Poland after results of the Physicians Final Examination (LEK) were released. A total of 2941 candidates undertook the exam, with 48 coming from UWM.

The Medical University of Warsaw placed first, whilst second and third positions were respectively awarded to the Poznan University of Medical Sciences and the Jagiellonian University Medical College.  The best pass rate was achieved by Medical University of Gdansk at 96.2%, whilst graduates from the Faculty of Medical Sciences in Olsztyn received 95.8%. Followed closely in third place by Jagiellonian University Medical College at 95.7%.

This is the first cadre of students (charter class) from the Faculty of Medical Sciences in Olsztyn to undertake this examination; a legislative requirement that needs to be fulfilled in order practice medicine in Poland. It will certainly not be the last - as the 6 year MD study program was first introduced in 2008 and each consecutive year enrolments have continued unabated.
