The Faculty of  Environmental Management  and Agriculture of University of  Warmia and Mazury unites tradition and modernity. The result of its 50 year history is the inheritance of the spirit of numerous scholars of Polish agriculture sciences. From the very beginning, it has educated specialists, who, irrespective of the political and economic situation, have tried to develop modern farming in the Warmia and Mazury region and outside its borders. The multidisciplinary education made the offered programs of studies attractive and laid the foundation for new faculties of technology, natural sciences and economics based on the growing scientific resources. What should also be stressed is the contribution of the Faculty staff to the preparatory work concerning organizational and curriculum planning issues of the University. Today the Faculty, which is at the top of the national rankings, offers candidates the widest range of areas of studies and specializations. It enjoys the great interest of youth from the north-east of Poland. There are always more candidates than the university can admit. The Faculty offers engineer and master’s studies, both regular and extramural.

The decisions concerning the choice of the area of studies or university are among the most difficult ones in the life of every young man or woman. They should be made with the utmost care. In such instances one should not take into consideration exclusively such simple criteria as location, curriculum or the attractiveness of students’ life. One should not merely choose an institution which offers you to become somebody, but an institution which will let you be who you can become.

The Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Management is a university unit which promotes people of both collective and individual success. The exceptional staff of academic teachers guarantee a standard of education which is comparable, and sometimes even higher than that offered at similar academic institutions. Those admitted every year in the Faculty of   Environmental Management and Agriculture(c. 800 students), with the ratio of students to  teachers 16 to 1, are not only another number in a file, but have to some extent an individual plan of studies.

What is the most important thing for you in your studies? Taking into account the quality and other advantages of particular faculties, you should pay attention to the fact that the offer of the Faculty of   Environmental Management and Agriculture  represents wide areas of study and specializations. All of them derive from one branch of the agricultural sciences and farming with its background has always been the most important activity of man. Nature, which feeds us and is our home, is, however, an exhaustible source of resources. For this reason it should be respected and used in a most reasonable way. If you are sensitive to the well-being of nature and the issues of the exploitation of its potential to the benefit of all the society are not alien to you, then in the Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Management, you will definitely find a conducive atmosphere for acquiring professional knowledge. It will also enable you practise your future profession with passion and satisfaction

The developing process of industrialisation, which also becomes visible in the production technologies in farming, makes the extensive and complex knowledge in the field of production management even more important. Farming is gradually changing into a modern profession, suitable for enterprising people who both like and are capable of making sound decisions, which allow for the risk connected with the unpredictability of the forces of nature. Although the number of similarities between farming and industry is increasing, it will never be high enough to pose a threat to the fundamental advantage of the farming profession, namely the close contact with the environment, which creates the unique romantic atmosphere accompanying the everyday struggle with professional duties. After the transformation period, and before the necessary structural changes in Polish farming, there is gradually coming time for new people, who will associate their lives with this field. Such experts are educated in the field of Agriculture of our Faculty. The education acquired after completing the course will enable you to become a specialist on technology of crops and animal production and special branches. A wide range of majors in the engineer and master’s studies includes issues from the field of technology, as well as from primary sciences. As well, you will be able to choose one of the specializations which will prepare you to work in the sphere of services for farming and services offered by rural areas, such as agribusiness, advisory services and agri-tourism. The syllabus is completed by the humanities, including foreign languages. We then offer you a diploma which distinguishes you as someone possessing both professional and general knowledge. This will let you face the future, which will be characterised by the necessity of constant mobility and flexibility of professional interests. With our diploma it will not be difficult.

Exploitation of natural resources requires, today even more than before, taking into consideration both the immediate as well as far-reaching and unpredictable effects of such activities. The natural environment and rural areas are under the influence of activities likely to threat their quality, in many cases with the effect being dangerous to the entire human race. For this reason, a thoughtful activity which reconciles the conflicting interests between the level of farming and the state of environment can contribute to avoiding numerous perils. Environmental Protection is another field of studies in our Faculty. The basis of the field is our teaching faculty, including specialists in production and protection of natural resources. This creates an exceptional opportunity to  learn the sources of threats and methods of their neutralisation. Studies in the field of environmental management and protection are also becoming an attractive profession, as in the future more effective effort will be needed to protect the balance in nature than to exploit its resources. Just as other fields of study, this one also includes a range of major subjects, both primary and speciality and includes element sof the humanities. The syllabus also includes foreign language training

Because of the peculiarity of its production process, horticulture has always been in the vanguard of the technology of seed production. In addition, it is characterised by intensive outlays, which results in a high degree of risk. There is no need to persuade anybody of the attractiveness of the education in this field. We have been educating specialists in this field for three years.

A very unique course of studies offeered is in the field of Land management. Programs of this type are developed by renowned world universities in their Faculties of Agricultural Sciences. The Faculty of  Environmental Management and Agriculture joined them in the current academic year. It will be a field of studies which will study contemporary spatial planning and management of urban, suburban, and rural areas, as well as the natural environment. Land management synthesises the knowledge of the fields of natural sciences, arts, and humanities in order to properly plan and generally enhance the functions and natural shape of inhabited areas and develop ecologically-balanced open spaces. The syllabus offers graduates considerable artistic, research, and cultural background, which will enable them to master the visual, spatial, as well as planning and designing skills, necessary when working with such peculiar “material” as land and the plant organisms living on it. The first graduates of the field will be in the vanguard of people improving the grey, dull, and often tastelessly organised surroundings.
