A consortium led by the National Technical University of Athens is seeking
an industrial partner active in the production of water cleaning systems
or already involved in water treatment and pollution remediation,
for a proposal to be submitted in the 2nd FP7-NMP-call.
The main objective of the project is the development of new water
purification technologies, based on tailor-made nano-materials,
with high encapsulation affinity to specific organic and inorganic pollutants,
where the conventional methods fail or show poor efficiency.
This objective will be achieved through the following tasks:
1. Development of tailor-made nano-materials using environmental friendly
green chemistry (biomimetic water-based synthesis) and optimization of
their chemical and physical properties for the removal of special toxic
contaminants from water including lab evaluation.
2. Design, construction and optimization of nano-based filter devices using
the above nano-materials and a variety of supporting scaffolds.
3. Up-scaling of the process to a pilot plant. Laboratory tests with model
and real water solutions will provide evidence of the filter performance,
membrane adhesion, wear resistance and chemical durability.
4. Construction of real-scale filtration systems and their ultimate testing
under real conditions for treatment of specific contamination problems
5. Developing of a suitable and environmentally-sound procedure for the
filter regeneration after use.
The industrial partners sought will participate and assist in meeting the standards
for the design and construction of the filter devices, the up-scaling of the process
and the testing of the systems in real conditions.
Any interested company should not hesitate to contact Mr. Erifili CHATZOPOULOU, no later than Friday, February 8th 2008.
