    On the 18th of March, the President of Poland, Bronisław Komorowski, presented a letter of professorial appointment to Professor Sławomir Buryła from the Institute of Polish Philology of the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Warmia and Mazury (UWM).

    The UWM laboratories will soon begin research on the first Polish deep wound haemostatic dressing. The dressing was designed for gunshot wounds of the limbs and chest.

    Award for the African passion

    Dr hab. Iwona Anna Ndiaye, the associate professor of UWM from the Department of Eastern Slavic Studies, has won this year’s aFrykasy Award in the field of science. The award is granted by the “Afryka Inaczej” Foundation so as to honour people who work in media, culture or science, and who promote African issues and support Polish-African dialogue in Poland.

    Evening meetings with philosophy

    The Department of Philosophy at the University of Warmia and Mazury together with the Jaracza Theatre in Olsztyn have launched a series of lectures titled “Wieczorówka Filozoficzna” [Eng. “Philosophical Evenings”]. Lecturers from the Department of Philosophy present various dilemmas of the contemporary world, and then actors read out philosophical works.
