UWM has started co-operation with Zortrax

Zortrax, a company from Olsztyn, and the University of Warmia and Mazury have signed an agreement (January 11) on long-term co-operation.

This co-operation means conducting joint research, starting internship programs, transferring knowledge and organizing science and technology events.

The agreement was signed by Prof. Ryszard Górecki, Rector of UWM, and Rafał Tomasik, CEO of Zortrax. It is the first such extensive co-operation between a company specialising in 3D printing and an institution of higher education in Poland.

What benefits of co-operation are UWM and its students going to gain?

“We will receive many benefits,” said Prof. Ryszard Górecki, Rector of UWM. “First of all, our scientific workers, in co-operation with the workers of Zortrax, will conduct scientific research in our region and country. Secondly, academics and students will be able to participate in an internship thanks to which they will improve their knowledge and develop their skills. Thirdly, I am considering setting up a dual education system with Zortrax, similar to the ones we have already implemented with other companies,” enumerates the Rector.

What does Zortrax expect from the co-operation with UWM?

“We are going to conduct projects using 3D printing in medicine, veterinary medicine and teleinformatics. We are also going to jointly examine new materials designed for 3D printing, making use of the research base and the knowledge of the UWM’s scientists,” explains Rafał Tomasik. The CEO also counts on acquiring new skilled workers from the student interns in his company and he is very interested in the proposed dual education system.

As it has been announced by Prof. Ryszard Górecki, the agreement will be carried out by the following faculties: the Faculty of Technical Sciences, the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, the Faculty of Geodesy, Geospatial and Civil Engineering. To get off to a good start, Zortrax has given the UWM an M200 printer as a gift. Zortrax launched its global career with this very printer.
