UWM graduates can treat patients in India

The Medical Council of India placed the Faculty of Medicine of the UWM on the list of medical schools recognized in this country. This opens up an opportunity for graduates from Kortowo to seek employment in India.

The recognition of the diploma by The Medical Council of India is necessary to apply for practicing medicine in the territory of the Republic of India. The faculties of medicine in the following Polish cities have already been recognized: Białystok, Gdańsk, Katowice, Lublin, Łódź, Poznań, Toruń and Wrocław, as well as The Medical Academy in Warsaw and Collegium Medicum of the Jagiellonian University.

- We are very satisfied with this development. India is the most populous country in the world. The population is 1.5 billion people and many Indians live outside the country. This recognition gives us an opportunity to attract Indian students to study at the Faculty of Medicine, and I don’t rule out the possibility that other faculties will benefit, too, if they have an English-speaking offer. We are expecting a visit from India’s Ministry of Health. This may be just the beginning of our cooperation. Having our graduates in India is a great thing. It’s a way of promoting our faculty and university – said the Dean, prof. Andrzej Rynkiewicz.

The UWM Faculty of Medicine has already won similar recognition from the World Health Organization, the US Foundation and Accreditation Committee for Medical Education to Foreign Students, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the United Arab Emirates and the Medical Council of Thailand.
