The good position of the UWM in the Shanghai Ranking of Academic Subjects

Food technology and veterinary science are two areas of science taught at the UWM and ranked in the prestigious Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects.

The Academic Ranking of World Universities is a list published by the Institute of Higher Education at Shanghai Jiao Tong University – one of the four most prestigious and important rankings worldwide. Apart from the university rankings, the institute also runs the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS).

The University of Warmia and Mazury was classified in the GRAS in two disciplines – food technology and veterinary sciences. In both disciplines – in positions between 201 and 300. Only four Polish universities were classified in these categories: the Poznań University of Life Sciences, the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences, the Warsaw University of Life Science and the UWM. In food technology, those institutions reached positions 151-200, and in veterinary medicine, the same as the UWM, except for Poznań University (not listed in this discipline).

The Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) provides university rankings in 54 subjects in the exact sciences, life sciences, engineering, health sciences and social sciences. The GRAS 2021 ranking includes more than 1,800 of the 4,000 universities in 93 countries and regions around the world.

Quite recently, the UWM was ranked second in Poland for Sustainable Urban and Community Development in the Times Higher Education (THE) ranking. This is the ranking compiled for the third time by a leading British weekly magazine publishing news on higher education.
