The Day of UWM was established in commemoration of 1 June 1999, when the Polish government adopted the draft law on founding the University in Olsztyn. During the ceremony, the Rector of UWM presents a summary of the University’s annual accomplishments, and then awards new scholars with doctoral and post-doctoral titles. Moreover, people of great merits to our University receive distinction awards or are presented with Honorary Doctorates.
Since the establishment in 1999, over 112.000 students have graduated from UWM. As many as 210 academics have been awarded professorship. In total, almost 300 post-doctoral theses have been defended, including nearly 200 UWM scholars’ dissertations. The remaining theses have been completed by scholars from outside the University. Furthermore, about 1.500 doctoral theses have been defended, including 560 dissertations of UWM workers. Outside the University, 200 doctors have been awarded post-doctoral titles, and nearly 300 scholars have defended their doctoral theses.
